I'm Ryan, from Colorado, USA, and together with my wife, Markéta, who is Czech, I have been teaching young children in English for more than twenty years. For the last thirteen, in a small school house by the water in the Holešovice marina.
We're not a chain and never will be. In the morning, we're the ones who welcome your child. In the afternoon, we're the ones who hand them back. We know how their day began, what they ate, who they played with and what made them laugh.
A father of one previous and one present student put it better in his review than we ever could:
“Eight hours a day, entirely in English. Two years later you go to pick your child up and find them chatting away with the others in English, completely naturally. What a feeling.”
That's exactly how it should be. Three-year-olds don't study a language, they live in it. They won't remember ever learning English. They'll simply speak it.
If you're looking for a kindergarten for your child, come and see us. We'll show you a normal day, answer every question you have, and your child can spend a morning with the other children.
This is us. A little house with its own garden and playground, right by the water. The children are outside every day without crossing a single road.
What a day looks like
The question parents ask most on a visit is “so what do they actually do all day?” Here's the answer.
8:00
Morning welcome
Every child is greeted by name. Free play, morning art, and the Lego building time that has always dominated the morning session.
9:30
Morning circle
Singing and the Morning Board: the day, the date, the weather and the first proper conversation of the day. This is where the quiet children find their voice.
11:00
Themed lesson
Letters, numbers and the topic of the week in a small group: space, animals, history or the human body with Roger the skeleton.
11:45
Outdoor play
Kids play freely in our large fenced playground.
12:20
Lunch and quiet time
A warm organic lunch we all eat together. Then books and puzzles, and a nap for those who need one.
14:00
Activity of the day
Drums, yoga, cooking, crafts or science experiments. Something different every day.
16:00
Outside until pick-up
Garden and playground until you arrive. And yes, the English carries on out here too.
Snacks at 10:00 and 15:00. Open 8:00 to 17:30, Fridays until 17:00.
Children are grouped by age so each gets exactly what they're ready for. Moving upstairs is a promotion, and the children really feel it.
Downstairs · Ages 3 to 4.5
Reds with Markéta
This is where it starts. Markéta speaks with the children in both Czech and English and gradually shifts more into English, so nobody gets lost or upset that they can't understand. Children learn to sit in a group, hold a pencil, write their name, and build their first English vocabulary.
Upstairs · Ages 4.5 to 6
Blues with Ryan
Upstairs first rule: English only. Ryan loves space, nature and history, and covers themes you wouldn't expect from a preschool or believe that your children could understand: the solar system, the world's biomes, the human body or the 20th century, to name a few of the favorite lessons.
“But what about Czech? Will they cope at a Czech school?”
It's the number one question, especially from families who speak Ukrainian, Russian or another language at home and plan to stay in Czechia. It's a fair question, and we have an answer.
Czech school preparation. Every Monday our pre-schoolers spend an hour with a teacher from a Czech primary school, who prepares them for enrolment and first grade.
A Czech teacher. Markéta is Czech and starts the younger children in both languages.
Czech at play, too. Many of our children come from Czech families, so Czech doesn't disappear in the garden either.
Ahead, not behind. Our graduates start first grade with a head start.
“We were deeply concerned about whether introducing English as a third language would overwhelm her. Clearly, the investment paid off completely. … Her English today is flawless, and she speaks with a beautiful American accent. … [She] still takes weekly online English lessons with Ryan. … It is worth every single penny.”

Rated 5.0 on Google. Here are just a few of the many reviews left by satisfied parents.
★★★★★
“Our daughter loved this kindergarten, especially Ryan and Markéta, who took care of her for all three years. She genuinely became fluent in English, learned so much in Ryan's lessons, and had a great time playing and exploring the world with the other kids.”
Simon R., dad
★★★★★
“We wanted our kids to be exposed to English as much as possible and this place ticked all the boxes. It is not another Czech kindergarten with ‘a few hours of English per day’. If you want your child to become fluent in English in three years, this is the place.”
Petr B., dad of two
★★★★★
“Our son has only been there for a month, but he already loves it and is always excited to go. He's already counting a little in English, singing English songs, and learning animals. He's only 3, so for now he's going 3 days a week, and we'll gradually transition him to 5 days.”
Jana K., mum
★★★★★
“We really appreciate the warm, caring, and individual approach of the teachers. Our child feels happy, safe, and well cared for.”
Barbara S., mum
★★★★★
“The resulting fluent English is a perk, and so was the wonderful location, small class size, bio quality food, great after-school activities… But I am truly happy about his growth as a person … how creative and curious he became under the guidance and care of Ryan and Markéta.”
Zuzana L., mum

“Great kindergarten with dedicated staff. Our son loves attending the school, as every day is like going on an adventure, as the Cat in the Hat would say.”

My child doesn't speak any English. Is that a problem?
Not at all, plenty of children arrive with no English. In the younger group Markéta starts in both Czech and English and gradually uses more English. At this age children soak up language like a sponge. First they understand, then they speak, usually sooner than parents expect.
We plan to stay in Czechia. Will my child be ready for a Czech school?
Our pre-schoolers have weekly preparation for Czech primary school with a teacher from a Czech school. Markéta is Czech, and the children speak Czech with each other too. Our graduates go on to both Czech and international schools.
What if my child cries during adaptation?
Some children settle in after a week, others take longer. There's no one schedule for every child; we'll agree on a custom adaptation plan for your child. Most children adapt within a few weeks. Teamwork and commitment between parents and teachers is key!
Isn't this just expensive babysitting with an English label?
It's a fair worry: plenty of places have a nice website and a few hours of English a day. Here it's English all day, and the daily program is run by Ryan and Markéta, who have taught here for over 20 years. The proof is in a normal morning. Come and watch, and within ten minutes you'll see whether the children are learning and interacting or just waiting for their parents.
Wouldn't it be better to wait until they're older?
At three, children don't study a language, they absorb it. No shyness, no translating in their heads, and the accent grows naturally. Textbook work comes later. Many of our graduates attend Czech primary schools and years later still retain their knowledge of the English language and accents of a native speaker.
What if my child is ill?
Sick children stay home. You can make up the missed day though, just let us know by 13:00 the day before.
Can we start in the middle of the school year?
Yes. State kindergartens mostly take children from September; we accept children at any time, for example as soon as your child turns three, when you move to Prague or when you go back to work. We have room for 20 children at a time though, so it's worth getting in touch early.
Can my child stay with you in the compulsory year before school?
Yes, and we'll handle it with you. The final year before school is compulsory by law and is normally completed at a kindergarten listed in the national school register. We're a private English kindergarten outside that register, so families use "individual education": you enrol your child at your local catchment kindergarten, notify them of individual education, and your child keeps coming to us. We track the deadlines, prepare the paperwork and get your child ready for the short check at the local kindergarten (usually in November or December).
Does my child need to attend an international school's nursery to get a Year 1 place?
No. Some schools imply it, but most international schools in Prague accept Year 1 children from elsewhere, subject to availability. Our graduates get in. We recommend asking the school directly how many Year 1 places go to external applicants.
Do we have to come every day?
No. We offer 3, 4 or 5 days a week, full days or mornings. We do recommend at least 4 days, because English sticks fastest when it's daily.
What do the children eat, and do they nap?
A warm lunch and two snacks, 100% organic, all included. We'll accommodate allergies and dietary needs. After lunch, those who need to nap; the others have quiet time with books and puzzles.
Why are there no children in your photos?
Because we never publish photos of children without their parents' explicit consent. Not on our website, not in ads. Your child is protected this way too.
How do we get to you?
We're at V Přístavu 789/22, Prague 7-Holešovice, by the water at Prague Marina. You can reach us by tram, bus or metro.
P.S. You don't have to decide on the spot. Come by, let your child try a morning, and decide at home. The worst that can happen is you'll have seen a lovely little school by the water.
